Geocacher Milestones

Memorable MilestonesIs it about the numbers or is it about Geocacher milestones?

Geocaching naturally generates interesting statistics.  As cachers follow their compasses to more hidden containers, there is an astounding amount of data produced.  Geocacher milestones often slip by unnoticed and sometimes the numbers dictate what cache we will find next.  For example, Country1919’s 1000th cache find was chosen for it’s difficulty.  Cachers will plan vacations around places where they have not found a cache just to shade in another state on their stats map.  Some geocachers are seriously motivated by milestones and number oriented results.  These cachers will visit every county in their state or they may find a cache in their hometown before boarding a plane to a far away destination, then find a cache there just to see the “Maximum Distance in a Day” stat increase.  On the other hand, there are cachers who won’t log their cache finds online at all.  Their satisfaction is achieved just by physically signing the logbook.  Most people fall in-between these two polarized groups.
